Iridis vs 2048 — an honest comparison of merge puzzles

Short answer: 2048 is the purer game: one board, one rule, no economy, and everyone already knows how to play. Iridis is the better pick if you want the merge idea with authored levels that end, a combo clock, bombs, and a daily board where your score means something against other people.

Where 2048 is genuinely better

Purity. No gems, no power-ups, no ads in the official version's listing. The rule fits in one sentence and the game never asks for anything.
Familiarity. A decade old and copied everywhere. You can hand the phone to anyone.
Undo. A mistake costs a tap, not a life. Iridis levels have a play limit in the free tier.

Where Iridis is better

Groups, not pairs. Merging a group of eight tiles at once is a different feeling from merging two, and the score formula rewards it exponentially.
Levels that end. Seventy-five authored boards with breathers, pinch points and boss boards. 2048 has no finish line by design.
A clock and a threat. The combo window shrinks as you climb and bombs tick down. Zen mode turns both off when you want calm.
A daily duel. One seeded board per day, identical for every player, with a global leaderboard.

Both are merge puzzles you can learn in one round, both work offline, and both are free to start.

Who should pick which

Pick 2048 if you want the classic, no economy, no pressure.

Pick Iridis if you want levels, combos, bombs and a daily leaderboard, and you are fine with ads in the free tier or a one-time purchase to remove them.
